18 October 2016 — “Filipinos go abroad primarily to earn money for their families back in the Philippines. While some are doing well, some of our kababayans fail to achieve financial security due to money mismanagement,” said Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco during a Basic Financial Education spearheaded by the Philippine Embassy in Rome for overseas Filipinos in Italy on October 13.
Twenty-five overseas Filipinos in Italy attended the short course at the Chancery. The short course is part of the Embassy’s advocacy to engage and inform Filipino communities.
“We want to continue engaging overseas Filipinos in Italy and share useful knowledge to make sound financial decisions,” he said.
The participants were introduced to the basics of money management in relation to their goals. They learned practical concepts such as cash flow, net worth, and simple financial planning.
“We want the seminar to be practical and relatable to our kababayans,” Ambassador Nolasco said.
Common money mistakes among Filipinos were also explained during the course.
“We hope to continue this advocacy in order to help Filipinos help themselves so that their hard-earned money is put to good use. We want to support them to achieve their ambitions for their families,” said Ambassador Nolasco. END
