24 October 2016 – Philippine Consul General to Calgary Julius D. Torres led a consular team on an outreach mission to Regina, Saskatchewan from October 14 to 16. Regina is the capital of Saskatchewan and the province’s second-largest city.
The outreach, held at the Holiday Inn Express Regina South, was organized in cooperation with the Philippine Association of Saskatchewan (PAS) headed by its President, Mr. Louie “Sonny” de Paz.
During the two-day outreach, the Consulate General was able to process 503 ePassport applications, 62 notarial and registry services, and three applications for dual citizenship.
Many of the Filipinos in Regina are employed as skilled workers by industrial equipment companies supplying the province’s farms. A considerable number are also health care workers working mostly in care homes in the small towns surrounding the city.
Consul General Torres met with the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, Ms. Vaughn Solomon Schofield, to discuss opportunities for greater cooperation between the Philippines and Saskatchewan on October 17. Lieutenant Governor Solomon Schofield commended the Filipino community in Saskatchewan for being productive members of the communities they belong in Saskatchewan. END
