AMMAN WOMEN

28 October 2016 — Ms. Irene Santiago, a peace negotiator and Chair Emerita and Chief Executive Officer of the Mindanao Commission on Women, Inc., recently came to Amman, Jordan to be the main resource person of the First Regional Women's Peace Table for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), held on October 17 and 18 and hosted by the non-government organization PAX which based in The Netherlands. The Peace Table’s aim was to generate a global movement by women, with men, for "peace that is diverse, dynamic and imaginative" and therefore lasting and durable. The 2-day Peace Table provided a venue for participants from various countries experiencing conflict in the MENA region to share their views.

Chair Santiago, as peace negotiator between the MILF and the Philippine Government, is an international figure in the women's empowerment movement. She had been involved in organizing the Beijing Women's Conference, and was one of 1,000 women nominated in 2005 for the Nobel Peace Prize.
