26 October 2016 — The Philippine Embassy in Brunei, headed by Ambassador Meynardo LB. Montealegre, joined Brunei’s Car-Free Sunday at Bandar Seri Begawan on October 23.
Brunei’s Car-Free Sunday is a joint program by the Ministries of Health and the Home Affairs, designed to encourage Bruneians to engage in more physical activity to promote a healthy lifestyle among the citizenry, as well as to strengthen family institution and reduce carbon footprint.
Ambassador Meynardo LB. Montealegre joined Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong (Pehin Abu Bakar), Minister of Home Affairs, and other Brunei government officials in biking around the capital. Other Embassy personnel jogged and walked around Bandar Seri Begawan.
During Car-Free Sunday, a number of roads in Bandar Seri Begawan area are closed from 6:00am to 10:00am so the public can use them for recreation, cultural and community activities. END
