28 October 2016 — Consul General Generoso D.G. Calonge last Monday called on Congresswoman Susan Brooks of the 5th District of Indiana on October 24 and personally thanked her for signing on as one of the 305 cosponsors, to date, of the Filipino Veterans of World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act.
In light of the Filipino American History Month, Consul General Calonge also took the opportunity to highlight the significant historical ties between the Philippines and the State of Indiana through the persons of former Senator Richard Lugar and former governor and High Commissioner to the Philippines Paul V. McNutt as well as a common passion for the game of basketball.
Congresswoman Brooks expressed interest in the activities of the US-PH Friendship Caucus and the issues concerning the Philippines and Filipino Americans who number around 2,635 in her district according to the 2010 US Census.
Noting the growth potential of both the Philippines and Indiana in trade and investments, they looked forward to more robust economic partnerships on the back of existing strong people-to-people relations. END
