22 October 2013 - Dr. Lilia B. De Lima, Director General of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) and Undersecretary of the Department of Trade and Industry, delivered a presentation at the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on October 16 entitled, “The Philippines: Your Business Partner in Asia, Opportunities for Hungarian Investors in Philippine Economic Zones.”
Director De Lima cited the advantages of investing in the Philippines given the competence of Filipino workers, business-friendly policies, good governance, and the country’s strategic location.
The event was organized by the Philippine Embassy in Budapest and co-sponsored by the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The seminar was opened by Mr. Gyorgy Karpati, the Deputy Head of the International Relations Committee, who invited the participants to observe a minute of silence for victims of the earth quake that shook the Visayas on October 15.
The eventwas attended by representatives of the Hungarian Ministry for National Economy, representatives from countries under the Embassy’s jurisdiction (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, and Moldova), Philippine Honorary Consuls in Bulgaria and Serbia, and high-ranking representatives of Hungarian business firms in various industries such as electronics, food, information technology, logistics, water development, automotive parts manufacturing. Director De Lima was interviewed by members of Hungarian media after her presentation.
The PEZA Director also held meetings with Deputy State Secretary for Global Affairs Peter Wintermantle of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary; Deputy State Secretary Dr. Áron Lenner of the Ministry for National Economy of Hungary; Vice President Peter Farago of the Hungarian Investment and Trade Agency (HITA); and Deputy CEO Dr. Victor Nagy of the Hungarian Export-Import Bank (Eximbank).
The event in Budapest was part of an investment roadshow in Europe covering six cities that started in Oslo and moved to Copenhagen, London, Warsaw and Prague. This was Director De Lima’s first visit to Budapest. END
