04 November 2016 — Traditional Filipino dishes such as the lechon Cebu, adobo, pinakbet, kalderetang baka, sinigang, pork humba Bisaya, okoy, sinampalukang isda, nilaga, pochero and even the dinuguan are being discovered and enjoyed at the first Filipino-owned restaurant in eastern Switzerland.

Called Asia House Restaurant, the dining establishment is co-owned by Ms. Daisy Vianin, a native of Cebu who has been living in Switzerland for the past 24 years.  Ms. Vianin partnered with Swiss national Hanspeter Jost to open the restaurant in August this year in Sargans, Switzerland.

Since then, Ms. Vianin’s Filipino dishes have generated a loyal following from both Filipinos and predominantly Swiss residents in the cantons of Saint Gallen and Graubunden even up to the Principality of Liechtenstein.

Embassy representatives visited the restaurant to join both Filipinos and Swiss in the area in a Lechon Buffet and Boodle Fight of Philippine dishes on October 29.

Ms. Vianin believes that there should be more exposure for Filipino cuisine not only for those who miss Filipino food but also to showcase Filipino dishes to the Swiss and Europeans.

The Embassy supports Ms. Vianin and other likeminded Filipinos in bringing the tastes and flavors of Philippine dishes and desserts to the consciousness of the mainstream Swiss public. END
