Sydney Rugby league

22 October 2013 - The Philippine National Rugby League (PNRL) Team PAL Tamaraws, which is based in New South Wales (NSW) and is composed Filipino-Australian players from all parts of Australia, competed in the 2nd Rugby League Asian Cup on October 21 at the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) in San Narciso,
Zambales, Philippines. Having won the 1st Rugby League Asian Cup in Bangkok in 2012, the PNRL PAL Tamaraws was eager to take part in the competition this year.

In preparation for the team’s departure for Zambales, PNRL organized activities such as a “Trivia Night Fund Raising Event” on September 28 and setting up a booth at the Fiesta Kultura 2013 in Fairfield, NSW, on October 07.
 

In support of the team’s activities, Consul Marford Angeles participated in the Trivia Night. Ambassador Belen F. Anota and Consul General Anne Jalando-on Louis visited the PNRL booth at the Fiesta Kultura 2013, congratulating the team on their progress and encouraging them to continue representing the Philippines with pride in tournaments in Australia and abroad. Both wished PNRL well on their outing in the Rugby League Asian Cup in the Philippines.

Reigning champion PNRL Team PAL Tamaraws will face challengers from Thailand and Japan. Prior to the Asian Cup, the 2nd International Nines competition will be held in the Philippines to promote awareness about rugby league football and to encourage the Filipino youth to engage in sports and self-development.
