08 November 2016 — Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Director General Charito Plaza visited Dubai from November 02 to 03 to promote the Philippines as an intelligent choice for foreign direct investment.
On November 02, a roundtable discussion was held at the Consulate with the Director General Plaza and Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes along with the Labor Attaché Ofelia Domingo, Philippine Business Council and a representative of the Singapore Business Council discussing Dubai’s political and economic climate, major economic developments in Dubai, its thrust towards being a leader in the Global Islamic Economy, Expo 2020, and its Vision 2021. Also highlighted was PEZA’s rationalization and its goals to create more regional offices in the provinces of the Philippines and search for a “PEZA Ambassador” in each country to assist in searching for potential
investors in the Philippines.
After the meeting, Director General Plaza proceeded to Ras al Khaimah Free Trade Zone and Investment Authority to pay a courtesy call to the officials there.
Director General Plaza also attended the Consulate’s monthly Town Hall meeting where she met the Filipino Community, business entrepreneurs, some employees of the UAE government, and leaders of Filipino organizations, among others. This meeting discussed the latest achievements under Preisdent Duterte’s administration, PEZA’s rationalization, and its future endeavors. It also highlighted the opportunity of the community to raise questions particularly on employment matters which were entertained by the PEZA Director General.
On November 03, the second day of visit, Director General together with Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes and Trade Attaché Eric Elnar met Ms. Krysta Fox, Executive Director of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC). She also met Mr. Hisham Al Gurg, Chair of the Seal Group of Dubai and Undersecretary His Excellency Eng. Al Shehhi of the Ministry of Economy. Director General Plaza will be in Dubai for a Roadshow event in January 2017. END
