17 November 2016 – Ms. Liza Diño, Chairperson of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) met with Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz at the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles on November 10 to discuss the possible collaboration on the exhibition of Philippine films in Southern California and to market the Philippines to foreign productions as viable location site for filming of international movies and television shows.
Ms. Diño presented the current programs of FDCP under her leadership which includes bringing Philippine movies to the US to strongly promote the Philippine film and tourism industries and enhancing the image of the Philippines abroad. Ms. Diño said that she is making her rounds to all Foreign Service Posts (FSPs) of the Philippines in the US to help FDCP achieve its goal.
The Chairperson also stressed that the participation of the Philippine FSPs is crucial in promoting the arts and culture to the Philippine diaspora all over the world. She emphasized the importance and contributory value of the movie industry to the government.
Philippine movies showcase not only the Philippines as a destination with rich natural resources and breathtaking scenes, but also the Filipino culture with the warmth and talent of the Filipino people.
Consul General Cruz appreciated the initiatives of FDCP and committed the full support of the Consulate in this endeavor. He said that this will be an excellent platform to recognize the gifts of Filipino Filmmakers and Artists.
The Ambassador suggested holding the screening of the Philippine movies in Southern California at the last weekend of May in 2017 as a kick-off event to mark the month-long celebration of the 119th Anniversary of the Philippine Independence. END
