23 October 2013 — The Filipino community in Botswana held a festive gathering for the induction of the newly-elected officials of the Filipino Association in Botswana on September 28, at the multi-purpose hall of the Christ the King Cathedral in Gaborone, Botswana. The officials, led by Chairman Joey Villanueva, were inducted into office by Consul Chad Jacinto.
The event was preceded by a thanksgiving mass, followed by a sumptuous dinner of Filipino food (lechon, caldereta, pansit, afritada, etc.), as well as entertainment of dance and song numbers from the children of the community. Prizes were also given to lucky winners of the raffle draw.
The Filipino Association in Botswana was started in 1991 by a group of Filipino engineers. Now, the community is composed of Filipinos who have married Botswana nationals, as well as engineers, doctors and other professionals. Many have chosen to live and reside in Botswana on a permanent basis due to the satisfactory living and working conditions in the country.
In the morning of September 28, Consul Jacinto provided mobile passport and consular services at the office of Honorary Consul Borello in Gaborone. END
