18 November 2016 – The Philippine Consulate General joined the State of Hawaii and some veterans groups in commemorating 98th anniversary of Veterans Day during two wreath laying ceremonies attended by high-ranking State officials led by Hawaii Governor David Ige, US Pacific Command (USPACOM) led by Admiral Harry Harris Jr., State legislators, Consular Corps and veterans groups on November 11.
Philippine Consul General to Honolulu Gina Jamoralin offered a wreath during the Veterans Day Ceremony organized by the Oahu Veterans Council (OVC) at the National Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl. The ceremony paid tribute to the sacrifices of all war veterans, active duty service members and fallen comrades.
In the afternoon of the same day, Consul General Jamoralin, together with the Consuls General of Australia, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand and veterans groups, offered leis during the Governor’s Veterans Day Ceremony held at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery.
Hawaii Governor David Ige delivered the Veterans Day Address and the Hawaii Air National Honor Guard fired a rifle salute. USPACOM commander Admiral Harry Harris Jr. and USPACOM service commands and the US Coast Guard 14th District commanders offered wreath on behalf of the military while Governor Ige and Hawaii National Guard Adjutant General Major General Arthur Logan offered a wreath on behalf of the State of Hawaii.
