22 November 2016 — Philippine Consul General to New York Theresa Dizon-de Vega welcomed and met with National Youth Commission (NYC) Chairperson Aiza Seguerra and Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Chairperson Mary Liza Diño at the Philippine Consulate General in New York.
During the meeting, the Consulate General and the FDCP discussed existing and other possible platforms for promoting Philippine films to a wider international audience. Consul General Dizon-de Vega briefed Chairperson Diño on the various efforts undertaken by the Consulate to promote Philippine film in New York, considered one of the major film capitals of the world.
The FDCP Chairperson was provided with copies of literature on the annual “Sinehansa Summer” film festival organized by the Consulate and briefed on film festivals in the U.S. Northeast where Filipino filmmakers could have opportunities to exhibit their works.
Chairman Diño shared with the Consulate the new film promotion and development programs of the FDCP as well as the agency’s plans to hold travelling film festivals overseas. Consul General Dizon-de Vega conveyed the Consulate’s readiness to support the FDCP’s program.
Consul General de Vega likewise briefed NYC Chair Seguerra on its programs for 2nd and 3rd generation Filipino-Americans to reconnect to their Philippine roots through socio-civic work, social enterprises, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, among other platforms. She was likewise informed about the Filipino-American Youth Leadership Program (FYLPRO). Chairperson Seguerra noted that the Commission plans to work more closely with overseas migrant Filipino Youth Communities.
Consul Arman Talbo and Cultural-Community Officer Olivia Osias-Magpile joined the meeting with the NYC and FDCP heads. END
