05 December 2016 – Bonifacio Day in Guam was made all the more significant and memorable when the newest Del Pilar Class frigate of the Philippine Navy, BRP (Barko ng Republika ng Pilipinas) Andres Bonifacio, docked at one of the piers inside Naval Base Guam.
Philippine Consul General to Agana Marciano R. de Borja, together with Consul Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian and Consul Mark Francis C. Hamoy, led the welcome party which also included Ms. Nita Baldovino, incumbent president of the Filipino Community of Guam, and other officers and members of the umbrella association's member organizations.
Consul General de Borja was at dockside to lead the welcome party together with representatives from the different organizations of the Filipino Community of Guam. Upon completing routine customs inspection, Captain Brendo J. Casaclang and his crew invited the welcome party to board the BRP Andres Bonifacio.
In his remarks on the frigate's helipad at the stern of the ship, Consul General de Borja stated that the newly-acquired vessel is a welcome addition to the Philippine fleet and expressed his hope that this will become a routine event in Guam with the addition of more naval assets as part of the AFP modernization program.
Captain Casaclang then invited the welcome party to a tour of the ship, which was named after Andres Bonifacio, the founder and supremo of the Katipunan who dedicated his life to the fight for Philippine independence during the period of Spanish colonization. It is no surprise then that the officers and crew of the BRP Andres Bonifacio also fondly refer to their ship as "Ang Supremo ng Karagatan." END
