05 December 2016 – The Filipino American Press Club of Los Angeles (FAPCLA), led by its President and Board Chair, Evelyn Aviado Portugal, called on Philippine Consul General to Los Angeles Adelio Angelito S. Cruz on November 29.

The two sides discussed recent developments in the West Philippine Sea, the Philippines’ relations with the United States and the country’s positive engagement with China.

The Consul General encouraged the involvement of the FAPCLA in his advocacies on empowering the Filipino American youth towards greater political participation, upholding the welfare of Filipino veterans, and further enhancing the delivery of consular services to its public.

The Consul General also took the opportunity to tap FAPCLA in the information campaign on the resumption of Overseas Voter Registration for the 2019 National Elections.

The two sides expressed interest in holding regular discussions between the Consulate General and media groups in Los Angeles on issues that affect the Filipino American community.

FAPCLA was formed in 1978 and has since been involved in Filipino community engagements that highlight the Filipino American history and heritage, encourage education in journalism and promote awareness of developments in the Philippines.

Also present during the meeting were Mr. Muni Zano, Vice President and Board Member, Ms. Lou Sabas, Treasurer and Board Member, Ms. Cecile Ochoa, Auditor and Board Member, Mr. Dante Ochoa, Secretary and Board Secretary, and Ms. Myrna Aquitania, Member and former President and Board Chair for 2008-2012.  END.
