06 December 2016 - The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong in cooperation with the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) and Pathfinders, organized a one-day interactive workshop for female Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in various shelters in Hong Kong on November 25 at the Philippine Consulate.

Babae, Natatangi 2,” was organized for the 2nd year pursuant to Republic Act 10398 (An Act Declaring November Twenty-Five of Every Year as “National Consciousness Day For The Elimination Of Violence Against Women And Children"), Section 31 of Republic Act 9710 (Provision of gender-responsive, rights-based and culture sensitive services and interventions to Women in Especially Difficult Circumstances), and Section 26 of Republic Act 9710 (Right to Information regarding policies on women, including programs, projects and funding outlays that affect them).

Forty-eight participants from seven different shelters in Hong Kong, namely, Migrant Workers and Other Filipinos Resource Center, Bethune House Shelter (Mission for Migrant Workers), Diocesan Pastoral Centre for Filipinos, Jesus Is Lord, New Beginnings, Pathfinders, and Christian Action participated in the project.  They were accompanied by over ten shelter managers and staff members. 

The participants were briefed on the various services of the Consulate General and its attached agencies, lecture/workshop on sexual harassment, migrant pregnant women’s rights, and domestic worker rights. 

Speakers were Ms. Devi Novianti, Corporate Communications Officer, Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) Ms. Carmen Lam, Senior Community Development Manager, and Ms. Lia Ngatini. The case manager of Pathfinders gave a talk on rights of pregnant women migrants and mothers, Labor Attaché Jalilo O. Dela Torre are talked on basic rights of a domestic worker under Hong Kong law.
