07 December 2016 — The Philippines participated in a high-level meeting of the General Assembly to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities held on December 02, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Ambassador Lourdes O. Yparraguirre, Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations highlighted the country’s initiatives, policies, and programs for persons with disabilities, such as the new law amending the Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities as well as the country’s disability-inclusive disaster risk reduction and management program. She also highlighted the Philippine-led 3rd Committee resolution on Inclusive development for persons with disabilities.

The President of the General Assembly Mr. Peter Thomson, UN Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon, and Mr. Stevie Wonder also participated in the meeting. END
