08 December 2016 — The Philippine Consulate General in Milan conducted its 2nd consular mission this year in the city of Padova in the region of Veneto on December 04.
During the outreach, more than 200 overseas Filipinos availed themselves of various services, including passport renewals and notarial.
Consul Conrado Demdem, Jr. led and supervised the activities. A representative from OWWA also took part in the consular outreach and extended assistance to our kababayans.
Consul Demdem used the occasion to meet with leaders of the United Filipino Association of Padova (UFAP) and discuss with them the concerns of overseas Filipinos in the area. He brought up the issue of illegal drug use and trade which is reportedly becoming prevalent in Padova.
Consul Demdem urged UFAP to come up with projects to wean young Filipinos from vices, including illegal drug use. Another issue tackled during the meeting was the new immigration rule requiring foreign workers to apply separate permits of stay for their minor children below 14 years old.
UFAP leaders pledged to collaborate with the Consulate in disseminating information regarding this and other rules that could affect the status of overseas Filipinos.
There are more than 4,000 Filipinos in Padova. Many of them work in households, factories, and hotels. END
