12 December 2016 — Officials of the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles attended the 9th Christmas Parol Parade and Parol Contest held at Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles, California December 02.

The annual parade of parols (star lanterns) is organized by the Historic Filipinotown Neighborhood Council Inc. headed by its President, Ms. Cecile Ramos.  Members of the Filipino community and various Filipino-American organizations participated in the parade with their parols mounted on top of their vehicles. 

A total of 35 vehicles with mounted parols joined the parade led by two marching bands from the Damien Spartan Regiment and Virgil Middle School.

Council Member Mitch O’Farrell of District 13 and Assembly Member Jimmy Gomez of the 51st Assembly District of California attended as marshals of the parade. After the procession around the streets of Historic Filipinotown, the parols were displayed at the Loreto School playground for exhibition and judging. 

A short program culminated the evening’s event at the function hall of Loreto Church. 

Consulate General officials congratulated the Historic Filipinotown Neighborhood Council Inc. for the successful conclusion of the colorful parade.  The parade of parols has become part of the Yuletide celebrations of the Filipino community in Los Angeles. END.
