25 October 2013 - The Philippine Consulate General in Macau informed the Department of Foreign Affairs that the Department of Agriculture (DA) wrapped up on October 20 its participation in the territory’s largest trade event, the Macau Trade and Investment Fair (MIF), held from October 18 to 20 at The Venetian-Macau Convention and Exhibition Center.

Food products were once again at the heart of the Philippine booth in this year’s edition of the fair, aptly captured in the theme, “Philippines: a Feast of Flavors.” Among the products that were brought in from the country were banana and sweet potato chips, coconut sugar, nata de coco, fruit preserves, sauces, biscuits, dried mangoes, and food supplements.

Philippine exports to Macau, particularly of food products have been steadily increasing over the years owing to the territory’s growing economy. Macau is heavily dependent on mainland China and other countries for its food supply, having no agricultural industry of its own. Its numerous hotels, casinos, and restaurants demand a huge supply of food and beverages to cater to more than two million tourists that visit the territory every month.   

The DA’s delegation was headed by Ms. Vivian N. Doroja, who also met with Consul General Danilo T. Ibayan and members of the Philippine Consulate General.

The Consulate also had a mini-exhibit of Philippine handicrafts at the ASEAN Pavilion of the Macao-ASEAN International Chamber of Commerce (MAICC). Philippine tourism brochures were made available to visitors at the Consulate’s booth.  END
