29 October 2013 - Two Filipinas received the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP’s) N-Peace Awards 2013 in a ceremony held on October 22 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Ms. Irene M. Santiago received the N-Peace Awards 2013 as the Philippines’ Role Model for Peace 2013, while Ms. Rohaniza Usman received the N-Peace 2013 award as an Emerging Peace Champion 2013. Ms. Santiago was chosen for her work on gender equality and in helping bring peace in Mindanao. Ms. Usman was recognized for her work in promoting peace through education and development, among others.

N-Peace (Engage for Peace, Equality, Access, Community and Empowerment) is a multi-country initiative managed by UNDP with support from AusAID to further the women, peace and security agenda and promote broader conflict prevention and peace building work in the Asia.  END
