02 December 2016 — The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. started accepting applications for registration and certification for overseas voting on 01 December 2016.  This is in preparation for the upcoming May 2019 National Elections.

“I encourage all Filipinos in the United States who are not yet registered overseas voters to avail themselves of this opportunity to be part of the electoral process,” said Minister Patrick A. Chuasoto, Chargé d’Affaires,ad interim of the Philippine Embassy.

“Our votes and our voices as Filipinos living abroad count. Let us not pass on the chance to be involved and be partners for change,” Minister Chuasoto added.

To register, all applicants must personally appear at the Consular Section of the Philippine Embassy for biometrics capturing.  They must bring the following requirements: 1) Photocopy of valid passport or if dual citizen, 2) copy of oath of allegiance or proof of Philippine citizenship from the Bureau of Immigration; or for seamen, 3) copy of seaman's book.

Ms. Eliza Lucido of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) was the first to register on 01 December 2016.

On its second day of implementation, a total of seventeen (17) Filipinos registered. The continuing registration for overseas voting will run from December 01, 2016 to September 30, 2018.

The 30-day voting period will commence on April 13, 2019 until May 13, 2019 (Philippine time) at the Consular Section of the Philippine Embassy at 1617 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington D.C. 20036. END
