03 December 2016 — The Philippine Consulate General in New York welcomed the first batch of registrants for overseas absentee voting at the Consulate General premises on December 01.
The resumption of overseas absentee voting registration began last December 01, 2016 and will run until September 30, 2018.
Consul General Theresa Dizon-de Vega, together with several overseas Filipinos, was among the first to register upon the resumption of registration at the Consulate General.
The Consul General invited other qualified Filipinos to register as overseas absentee voters to enable them to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming Philippine national elections.
Under Republic Act No. 9189 (Overseas Absentee Voting Act) as amended by Republic Act No. 10590, all citizens of the Philippines abroad, who are not otherwise disqualified by law, at least eighteen (18) years of age on May 13, 2019, and who are registered overseas absentee voters, may vote for Senators and Party-List representatives.
All qualified Filipino citizens who are not registered overseas voters may file their applications for registration at the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate or other registration centers duly authorized by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).
To register, all applicants must personally appear at the Philippine Consulate General in New York at 556 5th Avenue, New York, New York 10036 for biometrics capturing. They must bring the following requirements: (1) photocopy of valid Philippine passport or if a dual citizen (2) copy of the oath of allegiance or proof of Philippine citizenship from the Bureau of Immigration; or for seamen, (3) copy of seaman’s book.
