06 December 2016 — The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam kicked off the overseas voter registration on December 01 in prepration for the 2019 National Elections.
Mr. Apollo M. Bibat, a 39 year-old gardener at the Istana Nurul Iman, was the Embassy’s first Overseas Voting applicant.
Mr. Bibat has been an OFW in Brunei for seven years. According to him, he is determined to vote for candidates who will provide more opportunities for OFWs and their families back home.
“We will reach out to prospective voters and make them realize that they have a voice in shaping the future of our country,” said Ambassador Meynardo L.B. Montealegre.
The Ambassador hopes to encourage as many Filipinos in Brunei to register for the upcoming elections within the registration period from December 01, 2016 to September 30, 2018.
For the 2016 Elections, the Embassy was able to register 4,204 new voters. END
