04 January 2017 — The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai hosted the 1st Knights of Rizal Dubai Chapter Rizal Day commemoration at the Consulate grounds on December 30, 2016.
Consul General and Knights Commander of Rizal (KCOR) Paul Raymund Cortes and KOR Deputy Chapter Commander Wendell Castro led the commemoration of the 120th year of Philippine National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal.
Around 50 members of the Filipino Community in Dubai and some prospective members of the KoR Dubai Chapter attended the event.
In his Keynote Address, Consul General Cortes challenged the community to strengthen the relevance of Rizal as our National Hero alongside the rise of 21st century Filipino heroes.
He emphasized the need to probe deeper on what younger generations of Filipinos deem as heroic and to relate this with the teachings of Rizal and his role in the foundation of the Philippine nation, the Filipino people, and the Filipino spirit.
Rizal’s martyrdom was reenacted during the program. Members of KoR Dubai also recited Rizal’s poem, “Mi Último Adiós” in Spanish. END
