11 January 2017- Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua paid a call on President U Htin Kyaw on January 05 at the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw.

Ambassador Chua conveyed the felicitations of the Philippine government and the Filipino people on the commemoration of the 69th anniversary of Myanmar’s independence. He expressed confidence that Myanmar’s march to democracy will bear fruit under the stewardship of President U Htin Kyaw.

The Ambassador, commending Myanmar for the success of its historic chairmanship of ASEAN in 2014, expressed hope that Myanmar will support the Philippines during the country’s chairmanship of ASEAN this year. He said that the Philippines is steering the regional body during the 50th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN.

President U Htin Kyaw thanked the Philippines for the support at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat held in December last year in Yangon. He wished the Philippines success as chair of ASEAN this year when the regional body is at its golden year. President U Htin Kyaw took note of the successful commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Philippines-Myanmar bilateral relations in 2016 and expressed hope that the two countries’ peoples will be drawn closer through meaningful exchanges in culture, trade, and investment among others.      

Present during the courtesy call from the Philippine side was Philippine Embassy’s Third Secretary and Vice Consul Alan Roi Q. Gabriola. From the Myanmar side, the courtesy call was attended by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Tin. END
