11 January 2017 — Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua paid a call on Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar Defence Services (CINCMDS) on January 06 in Nay Pyi Taw.

Ambassador Chua highlighted the strengthening of bilateral defense cooperation through the reciprocal establishment of the Philippines’ Office of the Defense and Armed Forces Attaché in Yangon in 2014 and Myanmar’s Office of the Defence Attaché in Manila in 2015.

The Ambassador added that the appointment of resident defense attachés led to the increase of high-level visits which culminated in the historic visit of Senior General Min Aung Hlaing to Manila from June 15 to 18, 2014, the first from a Commander-in-Chief of CINCMDS since the establishment of bilateral relations in 1956.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said Myanmar looks forward to strengthening cooperation with countries in the region, particularly the Philippines. He expressed hope to visit the Philippines again for the ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Meeting to be held from March 08 to 10 in Iloilo City.

Present during the courtesy call from the Philippine side were Defense and Armed Forces Attaché of the Philippines to Myanmar Colonel Edgardo Y. De Leon and Philippine Embassy’s Third Secretary and Vice Consul Alan Roi Q. Gabriola. From the Myanmar side, the courtesy call was attended by Chief of Military Security Affairs Lieutenant General Soe Htut and Chief of Foreign Affairs Division Colonel Khine Linn. END
