13 January 2017 – Consul General Theresa Dizon-de Vega met with her Thai counterpart, Consul General Pornpong Kanittanon to discuss ASEAN activities in 2017 as the regional organization marks its 50th year.
The two Consuls General discussed possible events covering the three main pillars of ASEAN: political-security, economic, and socio-cultural.
Consuls General De Vega and Kittanon discussed the importance of holding a commemorative event for the 50th anniversary of ASEAN, noting the high visibility of New York and its importance as an information hub for political, economic, and cultural issues worldwide.
Aside from the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairmanship this year, the Consuls General exchanged views on the state of bilateral relations of the Philippines and Thailand as well as common concerns of the two Consulates in New York. END
