19 January 2017 – The Permanent Delegation of the Philippines to UNESCO recently hosted the first meeting of the Platform for Human Rights Education and Training for 2017.

The Platform is an informal, cross-regional grouping of UN Member States composed of Brazil, Costa Rica, Italy, Morocco, the Philippines, Senegal, Slovenia, Switzerland and Thailand.

The Group has been actively engaged in UNESCO initiatives on Sustainable Development Goal 4 targets on inclusive quality education for all, especially global citizenship and the prevention of violent extremism through education.

During the meeting, members discussed the activities for the year, including possible joint statements and side-events.

Coordinating the Platform Paris Chapter since 2015, the Philippines turned over the chairmanship for the first half of 2017 to Senegal. END
