20 January 2017 — Philippine Consul General to Los Angeles Adelio S. Cruz inducted the newly elected officers of the Philippine Disaster Relief Organization (PeDRO) at the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles on January 11.
PeDRO is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, founded in 2004 with a mission to extend relief to victims of national disasters and to mobilize resources of the community. PeDRO focuses on community-based efforts, including education, awareness and food aid.
Since its inception in 2004, PeDRO has been a partner to the Consulate General in its campaign to create resilient Filipino-American communities that are better equipped to help each other prevent, prepare for, and respond to life-threatening disasters.
“We want to seize every opportunity to share, to rebuild hope and to shelter love and care when it has been damaged or lost… I hope that when there are people in need, we can always say, ‘We will be there’,” said PeDRO President Mr. Archerie Calunod.
In 2014, PeDRO was one of the first organizations to donate to the victims of Typhoon Glenda.
During the installation ceremony, PeDRO announced that they donated to the victims of Typhoon Nina which recently hit the Philippines. The donation was coursed through the ABS-CBN Foundation.
“I am confident that through the dynamic leadership of newly installed President, Mr. Archerie Calunod and the dedicated and talented officers and volunteers, PeDRO will continue to be at the forefront in providing immediate support and assistance to Filipinos in distress.” Consul General Cruz said in his congratulatory remarks.
