27 January 2017 - The Philippine Embassy in Canberra served more than 600 passport applicants during its first Mobile Passport Mission for 2017 at St. Francis Church in Melbourne, Victoria from January 16 to 20.
The Philippine Consulate in Melbourne led by the Philippine Honorary Consul to Victoria Felix Pentad organized the Mobile Passport Mission. Di Jamieson, the Honorary Consul’s spouse; and the staff and volunteers of the Consulate such as Ms. Nini Jover, Ms. Virginia Del Rosario, Mr. Fred Jover and Ms Marissa Misola joined him.
Consul Jim B. San Agustin headed the consular mission. Mr. Carlomagno Estole, Ms. Kathleen Tudio, Mr. Roderick Sierra and the Philippine Labor Attaché, Atty. Rodolfo Sabulao joined him during the initiative.
During the mobile mission, 118 former Filipinos took their oath of allegiance to reacquire their Philippine citizenship under Republic Act No. 9225 or the Citizenship Retention and Re-acquisition Act of 2003.
More than 300 overseas Filipinos registered to vote for the 2019 National Elections.
The resumption of registration of qualified overseas Filipinos for purposes of the 2019 National Election resumed in December 2016 and will run until September 30, 2018. All citizens of the Philippines, who are abroad or will be abroad during the 30-day voting period, at least 18 years of age on the day of the elections and not otherwise disqualified by law, may register.
All Mobile Passport Missions of the Embassy until next year will provide a venue for Overseas Filipinos to register for the 2019 elections. END
