The Hague filipino scholars

09 December 2016 -  Around 40 overseas Filipino students within the jurisdiction of the Philippine Embassy in The Hague gathered at the Philippine Embassy for a get together and briefing with Philippine Ambassador to The Hague Jaime Victor B. Ledda.

The said overseas Filipino scholars and students are pursuing their post-graduate studies in various fields such as urban planning, management and development, and many others in prominent academic institutions and research centers in The Netherlands such as the Universities of Amsterdam, Erasmus, and Leiden; the Technical University of Delft (TU Delft), and the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS).

Ambassador Ledda briefed the students on the Embassy’s activities, such as the on-going Overseas Voter Registration.  He urged them to exercise their right to suffrage. 

He encouraged the students to participate in the Department of Foreign Affairs’ ongoing social media campaign, “FilipinosAroundThe World”, a project  of the Office of Public Diplomacy that aims to show the world the diverse profile of the global Filipino.

He also talked to them about the Philippines’ chairmanship of ASEAN 2017 and other related activities in the celebration of ASEAN’s 50 years. 

Ambassador Ledda also encouraged the students to become more actively involved in nation building through good governance, and knowledge and technology transfer through their respective fields of specialization.

Ambassador Ledda bared plans in the near future to visit other Filipino scholars and students in various institutions of higher learning in The Netherlands and to fully engage them as members of these academic communities in the advancement of Philippine relations with The Netherlands, including increased people-to-people exchanges.
