PHL Embassy in Ankara conducts consular mission in Istanbul, meets with overseas Filipino students
03 February 2017 ANKARA — The Philippine Embassy in Ankara conducted a consular mission and met with the Filipino students in Turkey during a community-building activity in Istanbul on January 28-29.
Bringing Consular Services Closer to Filipinos in Istanbul
The team provided consular services to more than 300 Filipinos and processed 67 ePassport applications, 12 SPA/acknowledgements, six certifications, four reports of birth, two authentications, and three NBI applications.
The team also received 76 applications for Embassy ID registrations of Filipinos in Turkey and released 93 ePassports, 48 voters’ IDs, and 18 Embassy IDs. The team provided Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) services to four Filipinos and addressed various inquiries.
Engaging the Filipino Students in Turkey
The team met with officers and members of the Filipino Students in Turkey – Istanbul Chapter at the Şişli Kültür ve Ticaret Merkezi in the Şişli District of Istanbul. The Embassy briefed the students on recent developments in the Philippines including the Philippines Chairmanship of ASEAN. The Embassy informed that students that ASEAN will celebrate its 50th year this year.
The Embassy informed the students of the Embassy’s planned activities during its Chairmanship of the ASEAN Ankara Committee in the second half of 2017 and encouraged them to help raise public awareness of ASEAN within their respective academic institutions.
Ms. Nihaya Casar, a Filipino taking up her MA in Political Science and International Relations at Istanbul Aydin University, represented the Philippine students at the 1st ASEAN Youth Forum on the theme "History and Development of Politics in the ASEAN Countries: Observation and Experience" at the Türkiye Gençlik Vakfı - TÜGVA in Istanbul on December 16, 2016.
