06 February 2017 YANGON — Quezon City Mayor Herbert C. Bautista and Yangon Mayor U Maung Maung Soe inked the Philippines’ first twinning agreement with Myanmar in a signing ceremony held on February 02.

Spearheaded by the Philippine Embassy in Yangon, the Memorandum of Understanding for Sister City Cooperation aims to foster closer relations between the two local governments.

Myanmar’s former capital, Yangon, is a city with nearly five million inhabitants. It is Myanmar’s largest city and remains the country’s business center. Quezon City, with a population of nearly three million, is one of the Philippines’ largest cities. It was the country’s capital for nearly three decades.   

The seven-member delegation from Yangon visited water treatment plants in Quezon City and the new township developments in Laguna as part of the study tour. END
