17 February 2017 — The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver showcased the best of Philippine tourism destinations and cuisine during the 4th “Of Rice and Roots” (ORAR) Southeast Asian food fair at The Nest of the University of British Columbia (UBC) on February 03.
CSEAR Director Rick Barichello delivered brief remarks on behalf of UBC President Santa J. Ono during the program attended by representatives of each of the student groups. The program ended with the symbolic pouring of rice by representatives of each of the Consulates General and UBC student groups.
ORAR evolved from the annual Southeast Asian Food Night. It provides a venue for ASEAN to promote better appreciation and understanding of the region, its people and its culture within the UBC community by giving guests and attendees firsthand experience of ASEAN cuisine.
The event was organized by the Centre for Southeast Asian Research (CSEAR) in cooperation with the six South East Asian Clubs (Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore) of UBC students. END
