20 February 2017 NEW YORK – Philippine Consul General to New York Ma. Theresa Dizon-De Vega together with Department of Trade Undersecretary, Industry Promotion Group, Nora K. Terrado and Philippine Senior Trade Representative Nicanor Bautista recently invited prospective American health investors and executives to the Philippines during the recently held Philippine Healthcare Information Management (HIMS) Business Process Offshoring forum at Kalayaan Hall, Philippine Center.
The forum attracted 50 American companies and individuals from the healthcare and medical insurance industry who listened to presentations by Undersecretary Terrado on Philippine economic updates, HIMAP President Cristina Coronel on Philippine offshoring opportunities and HIMS Roadmap 2022 as well as Philippine case study presentations on Revenue Cycle Management by Myla Rose Reyes (SPI Global); on Pharmaceutical/Life Science by Ma. Cristina Coronel (Pointwest Technologies Co.); on Health IT by Vincent Remo (Advanced World Solutions); and on Customer Service by Phil Taylor (KMC Solutions, USA).
Undersecretary Terrado led a 17-company delegation from the Healthcare Information Management Association of the Philippines (HIMAP) that travelled from the Philippines to New York for the first leg of a multi-city roadshow.
The HIMS roadshow is designed to promote Philippines HIMS to US stakeholders. The delegation is also set to participate in the 2017 HIMS Annual Gobal Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Florida from 19-23 February. The event brings under one roof 1,200 exhibitors and 45,000 delegates from the Healthcare and IT industry.
The delegation will visit Orlando, Houston, and San Francisco. The mission is organized by the Department of Trade and Industry and its overseas offices, the Board of Investments (BOI) in cooperation with Philippine Consulates General in the US. BOI Director Angelica Cayas was part of the delegation.
Mr. John Chess. Managing Director, KMC Solutions, talked about “A US Company’s Offshoring Experience in the Philippines.” A “Third-party Assessment of Philippines as a leading location for HIMS Services” by Sakshi Garg, Practice Director, Everest Group followed after.
In her welcome remarks, Consul General De Vega expressed support for HIMS industry in the Philippines in light of its strategic importance to the country’s BPM industry and lauded the leadership of DTI and its collaboration with HIMAP that deepened competencies from simple encoding to higher-value services. The Philippines’ HIMS sector grew by 41.03% (CAGR) or US$1.3 Billion since 2011.
