27 February 2017 VIENTIANE — Around 53 Filipinos attended the Seminar on Cardiovascular Health at the Philippine Embassy in Vientiane on February 21 in observance of Philippine Heart Month.
The Philippine Embassy in Vientiane, Lao PDR and Alliance International Medical Centre (AIMC) conducted a Seminar on Cardiovascular Health on February 21 at the Embassy premises in observance of Philippine Heart Month. A total of 53 Filipinos attended the event to learn more about cardiovascular health and how to avoid heart disease.
Dr. Phirawan Changsiri and Dr. Wisakha Cheewapun, as well as staff from AIMC, delivered presentations on the signs and symptoms of heart disease, risks and prevention, as well as first aid for those who are experiencing a heart attack. The AIMC also set up a station where they took the blood pressure of interested attendees.
The resource speakers emphasized the need to live a healthy lifestyle. This meant eating less salty and fatty foods, exercising regularly, and to quitting vices such as smoking. In addition, the speakers mentioned stress as a cause of heart disease.
February was designated as Philippine Heart Month by virtue of Proclamation No. 1096 issued on January 09, 1973 by the late Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos. END
