01 March 2017 BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN — The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam joined the Cycling Event led by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah as part of Brunei’s 33rd National Day Celebration at Bandar Seri Begawan on February 26. 

Hundreds of cyclists, together with His Majesty The Sultan and members of the Royal Family, gathered at the Taman Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Square. The event immediately started upon the arrival of His Majesty at 7:30 am.

Colonel Ernest Mark Rosal, Defense and Armed Forces Attaché, together with Msg. Romelito A. Galeos, PA, represented the Embassy and joined the representatives of the other Missions in the cycling. The other officers and staff of the Embassy participated in the free exercises offered around the capital while the event was going on.

The Cycling event was held on a Car-Free Sunday being promoted jointly by the Ministries of Health and the Home Affairs. The program encourages Bruneians to engage in physical activities to live a healthy lifestyle and reduce carbon footprint.

On Car-Free Sunday, a number of roads in Bandar Seri Begawan are closed from 6:00am to 10:00am so the public can use them for recreation, and cultural and community activities. END
