21 March 2017 BEIRUT – The Philippine Embassy in Beirut brought medical services closer to distressed overseas Filipinos temporarily sheltered in the Migrant Workers and other Overseas Filipinos Resource Center (MWOFRC) on March 20.
All of the distressed workers sheltered in the MWOFRC are women. Women make up around 98% of Lebanon’s Filipino migrant population, the vast majority of whom are employed in the household service sector.
The Embassy’s Assistance-to-Nationals Section, Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO), and Overseas Workers Welfare Association (OWWA) spearheaded the activity in celebration of Women’s Month.
The Embassy tapped the volunteer services of Jesuit priest Fr. Nabil Chehata, SJ, a medical doctor working in one of Lebanon’s leading private medical institutions, to conduct checkups in the chancery premises. END
