23 March 2017 NEW YORK CITY – A panel of Filipino-American speakers discussed the importance of participating in the US political arena during the forum, “Filipino Americans in Politics” in Jersey City, New Jersey on March 16.

Councilman Salvador Deauna of Bergenfield; Cheryl Quinio-Blogett, President of Keenyo Consultants, LLC; and Arvind Swamy, Managing partner of City Strategy shared their views and experiences in politics during the forum.  Filipino-American members of the press Lenn Almadin-Thornhill and Cristina Pastor moderated the event.

Philippine Consul General in New York Ma. Theresa Dizon-de Vega shared the need to "incubate" and mentor upcoming Fil-Am leaders interested in governance and stressed the importance of training and preparing them for their future roles.

A follow-up seminar on mentoring the emerging generation of Filipino-Americans interested in political advocacy and governance work is scheduled this year. END
