PHL Judiciary Officials Attend ASEAN Chief Justices’ Meeting and ASEAN Law Association Meeting in Brunei

29 March 2017 BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – Officials from the Philippine Judiciary led by Associate Justice Presbitero J. Velasco, Jr. of the Supreme Court and Chief Justice Artemio V. Panganiban, Jr. (Ret.), along with Deans of Law Faculties, legal practitioners, and government legal officers from the PHL, attended the 5th Council of ASEAN Chief Justices’ (CACJ) Meeting and 39th Governing ASEAN Law Association Council (ALA GC) Meeting, respectively held at The Empire Hotel and Country Club in Jerudong from March 24 to 25.
Associate Justice Velasco headed the PHL delegation during the 5th CACJ Meeting while Chief Justice Panganiban led the PHL delegation during the 39th ALA GC Meeting.
Aside from the 5th CACJ and 39th ALA GC Meetings, the ASEAN Chief Justices and Heads of the ALA delegations were received in audience by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, at the Istana Nurul Iman.
The CACJ Meeting aims to promote close relations and mutual understanding among ASEAN judiciaries, provide a regular forum for ASEAN Chief Justices to discuss and exchange views on common judicial issues, and facilitate cooperation among ASEAN judiciaries, with the end view of accelerating economic growth and development within the region.
