Ambassador Joseph Gerard B. Angeles hands over a donation of around USD 30,000 to Malagasy Foreign Minister Beatrice Atallah, from the Madagascar International Container Terminal Services, Ltd. (MICTSL), an affiliate of Filipino-group ICTSI based in Manila, towards the government’s efforts to help the victims of cyclone ANAWO.
10 April 2017 MADAGASCAR — The Madagascar International Container Terminal Services, Ltd. (MICTSL), an affiliate of Filipino-group ICTSI based in Manila, donated around USD 30,000 to the Malagasy government to augment the government’s efforts in helping the victims of cyclone ANAWO, which struck Madagascar last May 7, leaving 81 dead, hundreds of thousands affected and displaced, and millions worth of property destroyed.
ICTSI’s Director General, Mr. Rachid Baho, handed the donation through Ambassador Joseph Gerard B. Angeles during the latter’s call on Madagascar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Beatrice Atallah, on March 21.
Ambassador Angeles mentioned that MICTSL and its mother company in the Philippines ICTSI were model companies in the field of logistics. MICTSL’s workforce in Madagascar is 95% local, thereby contributing its own share to the provision of jobs for Malagasies (citizens of Madagascar). The company handles more than 90% of Madagascar’s seaport container traffic, thus also making a marked involvement in the economic development of the country.
In a Press Briefing after the meeting, Minister Atallah and Ambassador Angeles referred to the excellent relations between the Philippines and Madagascar, as the two countries are finalizing a proposed draft Joint Communique to formalize the official diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Madagascar.
