More Than 150 Filipinos in NY Gatherfor Black Nazarene Enthronement in New York City

Devotees venerate the image after the enthronement ceremony.

18 April 2017 NEW YORK –  The Filipino American Holy Black Nazarene Organization of New York organized an Enthronement Ceremony and Service for the image of the Black Nazarene originating from the Philippines at the Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in New York City on April 14, Good Friday.

The service was presided over by Filipino Archbishop Bernardito Auza, Apostolic Nuncio and Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations with co-celebrants Rev. Fr. Marian Wierzchowski, SAC, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Okpalauwaekwe, and Msgr. Oscar Aquino.

The image of the Black Nazarene now has a permanent home in New York City. With the image of the Nazareno coming from the Philippines, the Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is under the authority of the Archdiocese of New York and enshrines aside from the image of the Black Nazarene, a vested image of Our Lady of Mount Carmel which is widely venerated by Marian devotees.

Philippine Consul General to New York Theresa Dizon-De Vega joined over 150 Filipino community members in witnessing the special ceremony. END
