PHL Embassy in Amman Introduces Traditional “Hilot” to Female Refugees in Jordan
04 April 2017 AMMAN – As part of the National Women’s Month Celebration of the Philippine Embassy, the traditional Philippine massage or “hilot” was demonstrated to around 50 Syrian women refugees and local women in Zarqa, Jordan, on March 30 at Zarqa Life Center. The event was organized in partnership with the Filipino masseuses group in Jordan and Zarqa Life Center, a community center for Syrian women refugees and local women affiliated to Zarqa Baptist Church.
Five masseuses from the Filipino community demonstrated massage techniques to Syrian women refugees and local women and highlighted the healing benefits of “hilot” or the traditional Filipino massage. The Embassy encouraged the participants to learn the proper way of doing the massage, and to pass on their knowledge to their fellow women and family members since it could be an additional source income.
A number of participants tried for themselves the massage techniques guided by the Filipino masseuses. END
