PHL Ambassador to Mexico Promotes PH Trade and Investment to Mexican Business Sector
“Mexico Sin Fronteras” host Javier Navarrete interviews Ambassador Eduardo Jose de Vega and Commercial Counsellor Roaring on Philippine-Mexico trade and cultural ties.
21 April 2017 MEXICO — The Philippine Ambassador to Mexico, H.E. Eduardo Jose A. de Vega, promoted Philippine trade and investment to assembled representatives of the Mexican business sector in a roundtable conference held on March 28.
The roundtable, organized jointly by the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Mexico City and the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade and Investment (COMCE), gathered around 20 different companies with interests in doing business in the Philippines.
Ambassador de Vega, Commercial Counselor Vichael Roaring, and Vice Consul Mikhal de Dios answered various questions about the country’s business environment and highlighted the Philippines’ sustained growth and its attractiveness as an investment destination.
In addition, a representative from Cementos Mexicanos (CEMEX), one of the largest Mexican investors in the Philippines and a multinational building materials manufacturer, gave a testimonial about their company’s positive experience in the Philippines and their intention to continue investing in the country.
On March 29, Ambassador de Vega and Commercial Counselor Roaring were featured for the second time as special guests on “Mexico Sin Fronteras” (“Mexico Without Borders”), a weekly live-streaming program on foreign trade hosted on ASTL.TV, Mexico’s first online TV channel.
During the interview, Ambassador de Vega and Mr. Roaring discussed the Philippines’ business opportunities and its incentives for investors, as well as the country’s deep historical and cultural ties with Mexico. They also noted the increasing interest of the Mexican business sector in the Asia-Pacific region, and the need for additional foreign investments in the Philippines’ priority areas such as infrastructure, manufacturing, and energy.
The Ambassador ended by reiterating his commitment to promote increased trade and investment between Mexico and the Philippines, with the support of the newly-established PTIC in Mexico City under Mr. Roaring.
Mexico’s largest investments in Southeast Asia are located in the Philippines, with the presence of CEMEX, Coca-Cola FEMSA, and Kidzania, among other firms; the Philippines, meanwhile, is represented in Mexico by the port operator ICTSI, electronics manufacturer IMI, and Emperador Brandy. The Philippines and Mexico have a trade value of around USD 500 million dollars annually, with the balance heavily in the Philippines’ favor. The Philippine Embassy is working with the Mexican private sector to increase this trade volume. END
