PH Consul General to LA Honors World War II Veterans
21 April 2017 LOS ANGELES — Philippine Consul General to Los Angeles honored Filipino World War II veterans for their valor and sacrifice, which paved the way for the liberation of Manila in 1945 during the Commemoration of the 75th Annual Bataan Day (Day of Valor) at the Bob Hope Patriotic Hall on April 11.
He also highlighted the signing of the Filipino Veterans of World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2015 which awarded 260,000 Filipino World War II veterans a collective Congressional Gold Medal, the United States’ highest civilian honor.
Surviving veterans and their families attended the event together with Retired USAF Brigadier General Ruth Wong, Los Angeles National Cemetery Director Thomas Ruck and prominent members of the Filipino-American community. . Other Fil-Am organizations such as PeDRO, Kalayaan Inc., Bicolandia Organization and the Philippine Women’s Alumni Association also supported the event. END
