Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Amando M. Tetangco, Jr. was honored at a reception organized by the Philippine Embassy after his public lecture held at the Chancery on April 18.
24 April 2017 WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C, USA honored Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Amando M. Tetangco, Jr. at a reception on April 18.
“Much of what we have achieved in economic development is in no small measure because of the vision and leadership of Governor Tetangco at the Central Bank of the Philippines for the last twelve years. His steady hand at the helm of Philippine monetary policy inspired business and investor confidence. And so, as he attends his last World Bank/IMF spring meeting, it is our honor to host this reception for Governor Tetangco,” said Minister Patrick A. Chuasoto, Charge d’Affaires, a.i. of the Philippine Embassy.
Attending his last World Bank/IMF Spring Meeting before ending his second six-year term in July, Governor Tetangco had earlier delivered a public lecture at the Embassy on his observations about current economic developments, and his thoughts about the future of the global economy.
The lecture discussed the gains of the Philippine economy during his tenure and his expectations with regard to its trajectory given the trends and developments in the world today.
“Governor, you leave a rich legacy as you move on. You leave millions of Filipinos far better off, including those participating in solid middle class jobs linked to the global economy. You leave the country highly respected regionally and internationally for its economic progress, and you have contributed to strengthening ties with the United States by enhancing an investment climate that has paved the way toward a new mutually beneficial inter-dependent economic relationship among old friends," said President of the US-Philippines Society Ambassador John Maisto.
Phil de Imus, President of the World Bank/IMF Filipino Association, expressed great admiration for the governor’s work on behalf of the Filipinos and Filipino-Americans working at the World Bank and the IMF.
“I just want to emphasize that Gov. Tetangco's tenure comes at a time of the greatest upheaval the world has ever seen since the Great Depression. So to be able to manage the economy with that kind of growth, with that stable inflation, incredible financial stability, and increasing the policy space the Philippines has, is a testament to you, your staff, and also the policy makers in the Philippines,” said Mr. de Imus.
