PHL Ambassador Talks on the Philippines as Gateway to Southeast Asia at the Catholic University of Uruguay

26 April 2017 MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY — Philippine Ambassador to Buenos Aires Ma. Amelita C. Aquino gave a presentation on “Getting to Know the Philippines: The Gateway to Southeast Asia” at the Catholic University of Uruguay in Montevideo on April 19.
Ambassador Aquino highlighted the Philippines as the ideal gateway of Uruguay and Latin American countries to Southeast Asia, citing its strong economic performance, solid macroeconomic fundamentals, growing domestic market, as well as the ease of doing business facilitated by the similarity in the work ethic and culture between Filipinos and Latin Americans.
The ambassador also met with the Rector of the University, Father Julio Fernandez Techera S.I, to explore its likely link and exchange with Philippine academic institutions.
The presentation was organized by the Department of International Business and Integration, Faculty of Entrepreneurial Sciences of the university, under the Mercosur – ASEAN Chair. The Mercosur – ASEAN Chair was launched on August 2016 to serve as a platform for reflection for the academic, entrepreneurial and government sectors to promote economic relations between ASEAN and Mercosur and provide useful information for decision-making and public policy.
