12 November 2013 - The Philippines is again a participant at the 18th Macau Food Festival, being held in Macau from November 8 to 24, with young Filipino businessman Edwin Go’s Philippine food stall bearing the name of his Filipino restaurant in Macau “Umami”. There are more than 100 local food merchants participating in the event.
This year’s food festival is the biggest, so far, because it coincides with the diamond anniversary of the Macau Grand Prix, the 60th Macau Grand Prix, to start on November 16. The festival’s theme is car racing and its slogan is “Food Racing Tour”. There are five food zones: Chinese Delicacies Zone, European Delicacies Zone, Asian Delicacies Zone, Local Delicacies Zone, and Dessert Zone.
Thailand is this year’s feature-country. The other food stalls offer Japanese, Portuguese, Indian, Korean, Taiwanese, Italian, Vietnamese, and Macanese food selections.
San Miguel Beer, one of Macau’s best selling beers, is among the featured foreign beers by a local company which are being sold at discounted prices.
The Philippine food stall is an instant favorite among the festival crowd because of its good location and the variety of food items it offers, 40 compared to the 10 to 15 items of the other food booths. It sells Philippine dishes, sweets, and juices, among them lechon manok (first-day best selling “Umami” food item), bicol express, humba, menudo, pork and chicken barbecue, grilled Pure Food hotdogs, crispy pata, kaldereta, dinuguan, bibingka, ensaymada, biko, leche flan, and Philippine fruit juices.
The Philippine participation at the 18th Macau Food Festival is another good opportunity for the Philippines to promote its food and food products to the people of Macau, to the foreign tourists, and to the other foreign communities in Macau.
Consul General Danilo Ibayan, Vice Consul Ira Micheline Valdez, and the rest of the Philippine Consulate General personnel gave their full support to the Philippine participation and visited the Philippine booth during the opening day of the 17 days Macau food festival. END
