Eskuwelahang Munti ng Guam Holds 15th Commencement Program

05 May 2017 AGANA — The Philippine Consulate General in partnership with the Filipino Cultural Center (FCC), held the 15th commencement program of the Eskuwelahang Munti ng Guam (EMG) on Saturday, 29 April 2017 at the Pandanus Pavilion, Guam Reef & Olive Spa Resort. A total of seventeen (17) students graduated, including 34th Guam Legislature Senator Regine Biscoe Lee and Ms. Phoebe Palisoc, Ms. Guam-World 2015, both of whom have Filipino parentage.
The program consisted of song and dance performance (“Katutubong Sayaw—La jota Botolana”, “Mga Awiting Pangbata”), a presentation on the colors and symbols of the Philippine flag (“Ang Ating Bandila”), and a staging of the traditional Santacruzan preceded by a brief lecture on its history and significance in Philippine culture.

Hamoy, Acting Head of Post, with Mr. Alex Gagaring, Vice President of the Filipino Cultural Center and Ms. Lea Santos, Executive Director for Guam Commission for Educator Certification handed the graduates their certificates. Consul Hamoy congratulated the graduates and lauded the volunteer teachers’ efforts in helping perpetuate Philippine culture.
Certificates of appreciation for supporting EMG were given to the Office of Senator Dennis Rodriguez, Filipino Community of Guam (FCG), FilAm Presidents Club, National Association of Mapua Alumni-Guam Chapter, UST Alumni Organization of Guam led by Dr. Gemma Conlu, and the Filipino Cultural Center.
The EMG classes, are conducted for ten (10) Saturdays and taught by volunteer teachers led by EMG Principal, Mrs. Milagros Moguel, Dr. Clarissa Quan, Ms. Ciony Viray and Ms. Gloria Baguion.
